Today was one of those days where it looked like it was about to rain all day long. The boys and I ran out to do some errands early this morning in case it did start to rain (it never actually did) and then quickly came home and stayed in for the rest of the day. By about 2:30, the kids were going stir crazy. At that point, I knew it was time for some DIY therapy.
My kiddos love sensory activities that they can do with their hands. Anything involving sand, water, beans, playdough, finger paint, slime, or foam is always a huge hit around here. I try to rotate ideas so that they don’t get sick of playing with the same things and so it always seems like a new experience.
We decided to make up batch of cloud dough because it’s super easy, fast, and only requires 2 ingredients, flour and baby oil (which I was pretty sure I had on hand).
To make the recipe, combine 8 cups of flour and 1 cup of baby oil in a large container and mix well with your hands, making sure to incorporate all the oil. The kids love to help with the mixing. That’s it! Easy right?! When it was done we added some play dough tools and toy trucks into the mix and it kept the boys busy until dinner time!
The best part about cloud dough, besides how busy it keeps my kids, is that it vacuums up so easily without sticking to everything like play dough sometimes does. We usually keep our batch for a couple of days and then throw it out but I bet it would last for awhile if you kept it in an airtight container. It’s a great rainy day or any day activity!
What other activities do you do with your kids when you’re stuck inside?
